Born at Carnon Downs, Roy Trelease moved to St. Day at the age of three. He attended St. Day C.P. School and then Trewirgie Senior School. He still lives in the village of St. Day.

His brass band career began at the age of eleven with Trewirgie School Band. After a couple of years with Redruth Band he joined the Carharrack and St. Day Silver Band in 1966 and stayed for five years before going to Lanner Band where he played for some fifteen years.

During this time he played a variety of instruments including soprano, cornet, tenor horn, baritone and euphonium
He then retured to Redruth Band for two years and then returned to Lanner as Musical Director.

By 1988 he was back at Carharrack and St. Day. He played tenor horn for them at the National Final's in London in October 1989 while on honeymoon.
Following this he decided to retire from banding, but as any true brass bandsperson knows, the pull is too strong to stay away for long, and from 1990 - 1993 he played tenor horn for Pendennis Brass at Falmouth with his two step-sons.

When the position of Musical Director became available with Carharrack and St. Day Silver Band in late 1994, he applied for the post, and has been conducting the band since January 1995.

At Lanner, Falmouth and now at Carharrack and St. Day he has successfully built up the youth sections of the bands, so ensuring the future of brass banding in these areas.
