In 2005 Carharrack & St Day Silver Band
lost a valuable member of the band, with the passing of Mr.
Dennis Lloyd. Mr Lloyd was a percussion player in the band
for many years. When he finished his playing career he became
the Chairman of the band, and also the band's Life President.
He was a very popular member of the band, and will be sadly
missed.
Mr Lloyd's family presented the band with a legacy in memory
of him. The band members put forward a number of suggestions
as to what the money should be put towards. They decided to
buy a piece of percussion, a suggestion of a new marching
drum was made and accepted. The new marching drum was first
used at the Remembrance Parade in November last year, by the
present percussionist Aaron Penberthy, who felt very honoured.
After the march the drum was blessed by Father Andrew Gough.
The Lloyd family were unable to attend this march, so in the
New Year a number of band members went to see Mrs Lloyd to
have the drum dedicated to Mr Lloyd.
The new marching drum will be used regularly for a number
of marches throughout the coming year including St Day Feast
in June.
